Welcome back to The Confident Podcast! I’m your host, Lisa Tarkington, and today’s episode is one I’m especially excited to share with you. We’re diving deep into leadership lessons—what it takes to lead with confidence, how to empower your team, and the tough decisions that come with it.
Leadership isn’t just about being the boss or making the final call—it’s about creating an environment where your team feels like they’re running the show. It’s about building trust, making hard decisions, and having the confidence to lead through uncertainty.
In this episode, I’m joined by my good friend and mentor, Logan, who’s been a huge influence on me both personally and professionally. If you’ve been following the podcast for a while, you’ll remember Logan from two years ago when he first shared his journey of starting his company, Modern Realty. He’s back today to talk about leadership, how he built his business from the ground up, and how empowering his team has been a game changer for him and his company.
So grab your favorite drink, get comfortable, and let’s jump into these leadership lessons. I promise you’ll walk away with actionable tips and a fresh perspective on what it really means to lead with confidence.

Empowering Your Team
One of the most important lessons Logan has taught me is the importance of empowering your team. As a leader, it’s not about doing everything yourself or always being the one with the answers. It’s about creating an environment where your team feels like they are running the show.
Logan’s approach is simple: give people the space to thrive. He shared how, when starting his real estate company, he gave up his office space to make room for new agents. By doing this, Logan didn’t just create physical space—he created an environment where agents felt important, valued, and ready to take on new challenges.
Tip: Empowering your team doesn’t mean stepping away from responsibilities—it means giving them ownership. Let your team feel like they’re contributing to the bigger picture, and watch them step up with fresh ideas and passion.
Leadership isn’t always about smooth sailing—it’s about making tough decisions, especially when it involves your team. Logan shared how one of the hardest moments of his career was letting go of an agent. It’s never easy to make that call, especially when you’ve built relationships with your team members. But, as Logan learned, sometimes a tough decision is necessary for the greater good of the group.
The shift in Logan’s leadership style came when he realized the importance of cultural fit. While his business was growing, he realized that it wasn’t just about hiring the best sellers—it was about creating a team where everyone shared the same values and worked well together.
Tip: As a leader, you may face the tough choice of letting someone go. Trust your instincts, but also make sure you’re prioritizing team culture and cohesiveness. When your team thrives, the company thrives.
Another important leadership lesson Logan shared was how to navigate uncertainty, especially during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. When the world shut down, Logan could have easily chosen to scale back and wait for the storm to pass. Instead, he leaned into the challenge. Logan and his team stayed proactive, finding new ways to engage clients and adapt their business model.
In times of uncertainty, confidence is key—but it’s not about pretending everything is fine when it’s not. Logan showed his team that it’s okay to be uncertain, but it’s important to stay focused, positive, and optimistic about the future.
Tip: Leading through uncertainty requires you to stay calm, stay informed, and most importantly, be honest with your team. Show them that while you may not have all the answers, you are committed to finding solutions together.
Logan’s story is a powerful reminder that confidence in leadership is essential, but it’s also something that takes work. As he shared, confidence isn’t something you either have or don’t have—it’s a skill that you can continually build. It’s about staying true to yourself and your values, even when faced with uncertainty.
Logan emphasized that while it’s important for leaders to show strength and confidence, it’s also okay to show vulnerability. Leaders who are genuine about their struggles and challenges create stronger connections with their teams and inspire trust.
Tip: Confidence isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about being steady and reliable. Lead with authenticity, and your team will follow your example.
Today’s conversation with Logan was a reminder that leadership is a journey—one that involves empowering others, making tough decisions, and showing confidence through both successes and challenges. As you continue to lead in your own life, whether in business or personal endeavors, remember that the best leaders are those who empower their teams, make decisions with integrity, and lead with authenticity.
