An Epic List of 28 Empowering Resources for Millennial Women
Obviously, I spend a lot of time in this space. This Millennial women, female empowerment space. It’s kinda my thing, ya know. So I figured I’d compile a list of some of the best sites, coaches, inspiration and online destinations where I go to power up, get creative, and stay abreast of the wage gap.
LIFESTYLE
The Everygirl
Started by two women, Danielle Moss and Alaina Kaczmarski, this lifestyle digital mag is your go-to for apartment inspiration, life advice, and general do-betterness.
The Everygirl, LLC, is the ultimate online resource helping shape the creative, career-driven woman to experience her life better lived. Whether it’s how to incorporate a little creativity into your day or motivating you to seek out your dream job, The Everygirl is for you. This is for her.
HelloGiggles
HelloGiggles is a positive online community for women (although men are always welcome!) covering the latest in culture, female empowerment, style, relationships, friendship, careers, and issues that matter most to young women’s lives. A platform for writers and artists to create and share, HelloGiggles welcomes reader contributions and publishes them daily. We were founded by Zooey Deschanel, Molly McAleer, and Sophia Rossi in 2011 as a place on the Internet to inspire a smile. We’re still trying to do just that.
Self Love Beauty
From Lisa Thompson who loves “to help others see their true beauty, empower women to follow their dreams and work with kids.”
Self Love Beauty helps remind women how special they are, to see their true beauty, have self love and feel empowered one story at a time.
The Self-Love Formula
(Couldn’t leave ourselves off this list, duh.)
Media is important. What we read, watch, scroll over and share has an immense effect on our well-being, whether we admit, acknowledge or accept it. And, frankly, we at The Self-Love Formula wanted more. So we started The SLF because we wanted to trust our sources, to read about issues that mattered to us from people that understood us, and to feel good, inspired and respected while doing so. And we wanted to give that to you, too.
The SLF speaks to Gen Y women, understanding the new, nuanced situations that today’s young women encounter in their daily lives when it comes to self-worth, self-expression and self-love, and serves up some much-needed positive reinforcement. Think fresh do’s and don’ts, compassionate confidence and radical clarity in the distinct and entertaining vernacular of a Millennial, essentially making self-love a socially cool concept for younger generations.
ManRepeller
Leandra Medine is the fashion blogger who started it all.
man·re·pell·er1 [mahn-ree-peller]
–noun
she who outfits herself in a sartorially offensive mode that may result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls, shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.
–verb (used without object),-pell·ing, -pell·ed.
to commit the act of repelling men:
Girl 1: What are you wearing tonight?
Girl 2: My sweet lime green drop crotch utility pants, of course.
Girl 1: Oh, so we’re man repelling tonight?
*DISCLAIMER: the above conversation took place in this room 5 minutes ago.
Origin:
2009-10; < repellius (ptp. of repellia to eliminate male attention), equiv. to L repel– (s. of repellix) unattractive, celibate, paris fashion week, M.C. Hammer + -repel –ler1
My Kind Of Life
Body positivity never looked—or felt—this good.
Emily Nolan is the author of My Kind of Life.com. She’s also a model and the founder of TOPLESS yoga. #TOPLESSbyemily is a bras-on, bellies-out self-confidence event used as a tool for self-love. This event is about exposing vulnerabilities by practicing radical self-acceptance. Nolan’s effort to share what is real and authentic in media was the catalyst for the #HealthyBellySelfie social media project contributing to the global conversation around body image.
A letter from Emily Nolan:
I’ve modeled at a size 0 and a size 16—I know that happiness doesn’t come from a size, it comes from within. I’ve lived with 10 years of eating disorders and obsessed over fad diets for as long as I could read the cover of a magazine. I’ve struggled with plastic surgery, Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Female Athlete Triad. I thought no one could love me just the way that I was, constantly trying to live my life through media’s expectations of what the perfect woman should look like.
With radical honesty, I began sharing my story of my tumultuous journey through body image, figuring that I’d rather be happy at any size, than morbidly unhappy trying to look like a still-life, photoshopped image of a super model. In truth, radical honesty was my first successful attempt at living freely, without judgment for myself, for my size. Being truthful, without shame, is the most important tool in my self-confidence toolkit. I trust in courage, being brave enough to share my story, because it feels divinely correct.
Indie Chicks
From Founder and CEO Chiara Mazzucco, Editor-in-Chief Julie Zantopoulos and Partner and President Chrystal Rose, all lady badasses you should know
Being an Indie Chick means being self-empowered, driven, independent, and confident. It means paving your own path, stopping at nothing to make your dreams come true, and knowing your inner badass is there to tap into whenever you need her. There’s no right way to live, no right career path to choose, and no specific way you need to look. When you’re an Indie Chick, you are constantly striving to become the best version of yourself, and nothing more. We want you happy, healthy, confident and ready to conquer the world.
The Indie Chicks, Inc. is so much more than a self empowerment magazine – it’s a lifestyle. We aim to develop and empower the woman’s sense of self and help guide her toward embracing her inner badass in every aspect of her life. No matter who you are or what you do in life, the life of a woman is the same as the next. The moment you wake up, you’re you. But within seconds, a thousand hats are thrown your way and you instantaneously become someone’s wife, someone’s mother, someone’s colleague or sister or friend… And before you know it, that sense of self gets lost in the chaos.

We have only just begun to crack the surface of our possibilities. So follow along our journey as we continue to celebrate, empower, uplift, and support women (also make you laugh a little bit).
BUSINESS, CAREER & FINANCES
Ellevate
A networking and members site that’s helping you help minimize gender disparity in business.
We believe women are awesome.
We believe the research is clear that companies and the economy perform better when they fully engage women. We believe women are still an under-tapped resource in the business world and in society at large – and that it’s time to change that.
We believe that networking and lifelong learning are keys to business success. And we believe that by providing these capabilities, by working with companies and investors to help them see the opportunity, and by truly investing in women – we can be an active and positive part of that change.
Ellevate is a global professional women’s network dedicated to these beliefs and to the economic engagement of women worldwide. The most expansive and diverse network of its kind, our community is made up of successful, motivated and passionate professional women from various industries and walks of life with one common belief: that investing in themselves and in other women is good business.

NEWS, MEDIA, & CULTURE
XOJane
Quite possibly one of the originals, now in digital format. All the feminist lifestyle, personal essay, and culture news that’s fit to post, from Jane Pratt, founder of Sassy and Jane mags.
xoJane.com is where women go to be their unabashed selves, and where their unabashed selves are applauded — regardless of age, size, ability, location, occupation, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, economic status, relationship status, sexual preferences or lifestyle choices. This is not the place to find out how to please your spouse, mom, kids or boss. This is the place to find and indulge in a confluence of voices — yours and so many others.
We are not snarky. We are inclusive and encouraging. Like Sassy and Jane before it, xoJane.com is written and created by an entirely devoted community of women (and some token males) who have strong ideas, identities and opinions, who are living what they are writing about. This is a nonjudgemental platform where honesty trumps all.
Jezebel
Sarcastic, feminist news and opinion on culture.
Lenny Letter
Feminism, style, health, politics, friendship, and everything else from Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner atLennyLetter.com.
Huffington Post Women
