Understanding Burnout
Reflecting on my own experiences with burnout, I’ve realized it’s a mix of factors that can push us to our limits. I remember lying in bed, completely overwhelmed. I’ve seen others lash out at loved ones when they hit this breaking point, losing their sense of purpose and abandoning the things they once loved. That’s not what I want for you. Whether you’re teetering on the edge of burnout or actively trying to avoid it, I hope my insights can help you recognize and navigate this tough state.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I found myself staring at my computer screen, feeling completely drained. “Breathe, Lisa,” I told myself. It was one of those days where everything felt overwhelming, despite all the amazing things happening in my life. And it hit me: even when you’re doing well, life can still be a lot to handle!
That’s what this podcast is all about—mastering confidence and leadership, even when things get tough. Each week, I bring you real conversations and actionable insights to help you reclaim your confidence and transform into the unstoppable force you know you can be. So, buckle up; we’re in this together!
Lately, I’ve been learning a lot about letting go, trusting the process, and truly being present. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle, especially as an entrepreneur. I mean, I love my work, but sometimes it feels like I have a million things on my plate! The key for me has been breaking it down into smaller steps. Instead of focusing on a grand plan for the next five years, I’m taking it one quarter at a time. And you know what? It’s making a difference.
One of the hardest parts about being an entrepreneur is learning to trust your team. I’ve built an amazing crew, but I still struggle with letting go of tasks I used to handle myself. I care deeply about their success and the success of our company, which can make it tough to step back. But the more I communicate and show them that I trust them, the easier it gets.
One thing I’ve learned along the way is how important self-reflection can be. Talking things out with trusted mentors or friends has been a game-changer for me. It’s all about letting go and being present in the moment. Embracing vulnerability can actually lead to some incredible personal and professional growth. So, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your own experiences. Trust me; you’re not alone in this!
To help you assess how you’re feeling, take a moment to consider these questions:
- Do I feel motivated and excited, or do I dread the day ahead?
- Am I emotionally drained or overwhelmed most days?
- Do I struggle to focus and make decisions?
- Am I frequently tired, even after a full night’s sleep?
- Am I withdrawing from social interactions and relationships?
- Am I neglecting my self-care routines?
- Have I been more irritable or impatient with others lately?
- Do I no longer find joy in things I once enjoyed?
- Do I feel guilty about not doing enough?
If any of these hit home, it’s time for a little self-reflection. Recognizing where you are is the first step toward making positive changes.
Once you’ve identified those burnout feelings, here are some strategies that can really help:
- Self-Awareness: Start by acknowledging your feelings. Reflect on those questions I shared to see if you’re approaching burnout.
- Set Boundaries: Ask yourself: Am I available 24/7? What boundaries do I need to establish? For me, blocking off time for family and self-care is a must, and I turn off work notifications after hours.
- Mindset Work: Engaging in mindset practices is essential. Journaling can help you reflect on your thoughts and feelings. And sometimes, all you really need is a good night’s sleep.
- Prioritize Self-Care: Remember, self-care looks different for everyone. Whether it’s a few minutes of quiet time or a longer break, find what recharges you. Trust me; rest is key to productivity and can spark creativity and motivation!
- Learn to Say No: Over the years, I’ve learned how vital it is to delegate and set priorities. It’s okay to decline activities that drain your energy or don’t align with your goals.
- Visualize Your Goals: Regularly check in with yourself. Picture how you feel now versus how you want to feel in the future. This can help clarify your priorities and guide your choices.
- Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out for help. Surround yourself with positive influences, whether that’s friends, family, or professional support.
