Focus Your Energy on What You CAN Change

I work in what is sometimes a very toxic environment. Most women I work with are in competition with each other instead of lifting each other up. My boss is a female who leads by emotions and often pits coworkers against each other.

My career has been an important part of my life for the last fifteen years and I realized that how I feel about myself day to day (including my confidence level) is usually connected to the things I’m hearing from my boss. I’m either the “most amazing employee who does it all and makes it look easy” or in some type of a situation when I’m being “coached” to the point of tears. There is no in between and it can feel like an emotional roller coaster.

While I’m not in a position to get a new job immediately, I decided this year to stop giving everything – including nights, weekends and my mental health – to a job. Sure, I’m still going to work hard while I’m at work, but I’m WAY more protective of my personal time. That’s something that I can control.

I started volunteering more, giving my time and skills to non profit organizations that are focused on spreading hope and sharing love with others. Making this change made it easier for me to feel more confident in who I am and what I have to offer the world. It also makes it easier to deflect the negative talk that comes at work, plus find the courage to start thinking about my next career and step away from the toxicity!

“When you start seeing your worth, you’ll find it hard to stay around people who don’t!”

Our #RiseToConfidence Campaign is about giving women the opportunity to anonymously share their experience of losing confidence and feeling down because of others in their lives and how they rose above it. With each story, we hope to increase female empowerment and positive leadership in a respectful, impactful and influential way!

Each story is shared every Friday on our website and our social media channels. Check out more stories!

YOU can share your own story about rising to confidence! Fill out our SUBMISSION FORM! The deadline to submit your story will be November 1, 2019!
