Independence Has Taught Me More Than Being Dependent On Others
Destiny’s Child says it best in their Independent Woman lyrics “The shoes on my feet, I’ve bought it, the clothes I’m wearing,
I’ve bought it, the rock I’m rocking, ’cause I depend on me. If I wanted the watch you’re wearing, I’ll buy it, the house I live in
I’ve bought it, the car I’m driving, I’ve bought it, I depend on me.”
Since I was little I was always very independent. I wanted to be able to pay my own bills, take of myself and never rely on anyone. I think society taught me through watching others get divorced or rely on others that sometimes they let you down and you are left with nothing. I didn’t want that to happen to me.
When you are independent, you accomplish so much in life and I believe you make the most out of life because instead of relying on others you rely on yourself.
You can create your own schedule
You don’t have to worry about waiting on other people, you create a schedule that fits for you. You get to do what you want, when you want to.
You become more adventurous
When you are independent, you are able to drive hours by yourself to do something, get on a plane for a weekend to travel or just do something you normally wouldn’t. For example, I have traveled to multiple states in the last year and done things like sky diving or a weekend to Florida. These things I normally wouldn’t do but I have become more independent over the years and more adventurous.
We work for everything
Some people rely on others to help them get a job or have certain things handed to you. Independent people go after everything they want themselves, they don’t rely on others to do things for them. It takes a lot of work and effort but they become more successful and happy with what they have accomplish because they did it themselves.
We learn the hard way
Since you do everything on your own, you learn the hard way on a lot of things but the end results means you become stronger.
We can always count on ourselves
You don’t have to rely on anyone but yourself so you can always count on yourself for anything. Instead of having people let you down, the only person that can let you down is yourself.
We appreciate the little things
We know how much it can take to make the little things happen and we appreciate when people go out of their way to do things for us. We live in a society where people are always on the go, a little more selfish and just don’t think about how important the little things really are. Independent people appreciate when others do these things for them.
We learn to look towards yourself for love and happiness
Instead of relying on others to make you happy or to love you, you learn to love yourself and find happiness in everything you do because you are the only one that can make you happy. You learn you are the only one that can make yourself happy.
You become more brave
Fear stops many people from doing a lot of things in life. When you are independent you become very brave because of everything you have done on your own. It helps you conquer many of your fears and makes you move toward reaching your goals even faster.
You attract other independent partners and friends
You make friends like yourself and people that can do their own thing. You don’t have to deal with slackers and moochers.
