Why I Decided to Attend the Women’s March in Chicago
On January 21, 2017, more than 250,000 people came together for the Women’s March in Chicago. I was one of them. While I was there, women and men from around the country were coming together in different cites, counties and states. In a beautiful, very peaceful way.
In Chicago alone, we reached capacity. Meaning we had the roads as full as they could be. There were speakers that spoke and shared their stories. They shared about their missions, how they have been affected and helped bring everyone together.
There is a lot of media going around about how this Women’s March was a march against Trump. If you were there you would understand that was not the case. Yes, some felt that way but mainly each of us were marching for different reasons but for one goal of standing together.
Some marched for their daughters, to empower others, to help women know they have a safe space and some were there to stand as a community.

I marched because I want women to know they are not alone in their journey. I want them to know that I have their back and I will stand by their side through the rough times. I want them to know that the reason that Self Love Beauty was started was to empower women, teach self-love and confidence and be a place women can share their stories to inspire others.
This March brought tears to my eyes. We each came from different backgrounds and that is make this powerful. We learned, shared and stood together. It is beauty. Self-love and confidence is so powerful and we need each to stand together for our rights.
We made history.
We came to connect, protect and advocate.
We came together to stand as sisters, empower each other and we were reminded that we are in this together.
I learned about the history of the women before me, and I learned about what I need to continue to do to be a feminism.
I realized the word feminism has received a bad tone…but ultimately it means fighting for women’s rights. You don’t have to use the word if you don’t want to but I urge you to stand up for everyone. Stand up for your mom, sister, daughter, niece, girl friend, girlfriend or wife.
I have always been teased for being strong and independent, but it is much more than that. I want the women around me to know I will stand up for them and have their backs at work, I will help them receive the pay they deserve and I will stand by their sides if they decide to be a stay at home mom or a career woman. I will stand by side them through the rough times and be the support but also be there to in joyous moments.
I am my sisters keeper. I want the next generation to love their bodies, to know that there is no ideal woman like society makes out to be, we are all unique in our own ways.
So to every person out there who needs someone to stand by them, Self Love Beauty is here for you. To help share your story, empower you and help you find self-love and confidence.
