“I remember coming up to my mom and saying I want to help people that are less fortunate than me.” Lisa’s entrepreneurial journey started in third grade when she decided to sell handmade ornaments for a dollar each. She made headlines in her hometown and received an award. This was her first step into the world of entrepreneurship, but she didn’t do anything else for a long time as she went through middle and high school as a young athlete.
In college, Lisa created a blog called “Self Love Beauty” for a social media class project. Writing became her outlet, helping her gain confidence, and soon she started attracting readers and contributors. Despite a mentor telling her it wouldn’t go anywhere, she was determined to turn it into a nonprofit. Lisa spent eight years in corporate communications while building Self Love Beauty on the side. After struggling to balance both, she left her corporate job in March 2019 to focus on her nonprofit, taking on a part-time marketing job to support herself. That same year, the first annual affirmation day for Self Love Beauty was held in May and helped around 3,000 people. Since 2019, Self Love Beauty has gone through a lot of changes. From hiring the first employee to navigating the challenges of COVID-19 in 2020, to a recent rebrand, it has evolved alongside Lisa’s personal growth.
